Children and oral care

Looking after children’s teeth

When it comes to children’s teeth, it’s important to set good habits early.

To support dental care for children NHS Wiltshire runs the Happy Little Teeth Award. This special award is open to Mother and Toddler groups, Playgroups, Nurseries and Schools.

The aim of the Happy Little Teeth Award is to raise awareness of the importance of dental care for all the family and the importance of starting good habits early.

The focus of ‘Happy Little Teeth’ is children under five. The activities coincide with early learning goals and aim to:

  • Encourage daily brushing with fluoride toothpaste
  • Encourage eating and drinking habits that support healthy teeth
  • Encourage parents to register their children with a dentist at an early age.
  • And to have fun while learning!

The Happy Little Teeth Award pack gives lots of useful tips on how to approach oral health. A certificate is awarded when the group has completed all of the activities and returned a portfolio displaying the work they have done.
