Urgent dental care in surgery hours

Dental Access Centres (DACs) provide NHS dental treatment to anyone who does not have a regular dentist and is in need of urgent dental care.

We encourage everyone to register with a dental practice and to use the Dental Access Centre service for urgent care only and only for patients that are not currently registered with a dentist. That’s why we do not register patients at the Centres.

The Centres do provide some routine check-ups and treatment, however, there is a waiting list for this service. On completion of a course of routine treatment we will ask you to register with a dental practice.

You can do this in two ways: you can use our interactive map to find a dentist near you or you can contact our Dental Helpline on 0845 758 1926 to find an NHS dentist with the capacity to take on new NHS patients. You will need to check that the dentist you choose registers NHS patients.

Our aim is for everyone to have access to dental care, so if you are unable to register with an NHS dental practice within a year of your treatment at the Dental Access Centre, then we will put you back on our waiting list.

Dental Access Centres do not offer a walk-in service; appointments must be made before attendance. There will be a charge for treatment at the Dental Access Centre. NHS charging bands

What is a dental emergency in need of hospital treatment:
 
If you experience one of the following:

  • Uncontrollable bleeding following dental extractions
  • Rapidly increasing swelling around the throat or eye
  • Severe trauma to the face and jaws 

You should go immediately to A&E at either:
