Equality and Diversity

Our aim is to ensure all our services are accessible, appropriate and sensitive to the needs of individuals.

Access to health advice, health services or employment opportunities with the National Health Trust should not be prejudiced because of a person’s age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership status, pregnancy and maternity status, race, religion & belief, sex and sexual orientation or social status.

This means that differences in services and opportunities must be shaped by people’s different needs; it does not mean that everybody has exactly the same services and opportunities regardless of their needs.

NHS Wiltshire is committed to eliminating discrimination and promoting equality and human rights for the people of Wiltshire and for our staff. Our aim is to ensure that the way we work with individuals and communities - and their representatives – as well as with our staff challenges inequality and affirms difference.

How do we respect diversity?

Variations of thinking, communication styles, skills and personalities are respected and valued: respecting diversity begins with recognising that our community is richer and stronger when we include the different perspectives, knowledge and life experience that staff, patients, carers and families have to offer the county and NHS Wiltshire.

Meeting the public sector equality duty

NHS Wiltshire is committed to ensuring that when making decisions about buying services for the residents of Wiltshire it takes full account of equality, diversity and human rights issues. Our aim is to work towards a personal, diverse and fair NHS in Wiltshire. These principles apply equally to the way we recruit, manage and develop our staff.
