Healthy Minds

Mental wellbeing is everyone’s business.

One in four of us will experience a mental health problem at some time in our life. The chances of either having a mental health problem or experiencing someone close to us having a mental health problem is high – so mental wellbeing is everyone’s business.

NHS Wiltshire commissions Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership to provide a range of professional services which work together to provide specialist mental health services to people across Wiltshire.

The approach focuses on the needs of service users and carers and aims to deliver high quality community-based services supported by high quality inpatient facilities – which provide specialist short-term assessment and treatment. The aim is to enable and empower people to reach their potential and live fulfilling lives.

Memory loss and dementia

Memory loss and dementia is one of the long term conditions which has a high local priority for improving the range of support services available. People are being encouraged to go to their GP if they have a memory loss to seek an early diagnosis in order to reduce the likelihood of an unplanned crisis when they or their carers are not able to cope any longer.

We have a joint dementia strategy with Wiltshire Council and a joint action and commissioning plan for people with dementia for 2011-12 is available too.  The commissioning plan is always evolving and you can see it here: Commissioning plan for dementia
