Children's Speech and Language Therapy Service

Learning to speak is one of the most important skills a child can learn, and yet we so often take it for granted that a child will naturally learn to understand what we say, speak and communicate.

Impaired speech, language and communication development can impact on a child’s ability to access their learning environment at home and school.

What we do

We are a large team of speech and language therapists and assistants working across Wiltshire. Working in education, children centres, health centre and hospitals, children are seen up to the age of 19 years. So that we can offer the best support to the children we see, we have 5 specialist teams who each offer a bespoke service.

We assess children using observation, discussion and formal tests. We provide advice and support to parents, carers, and educators, to enable them to promote the child’s potential.

People who know the child well, are best placed to help develop a child’s communication skills. Playing communication games at home and school really helps a child progress. Therapy does not have to be delivered by a speech and language therapist – we encourage all those around the child to join in and help with our guidance.

Training and Support

We offer a wide variety of training courses for parents, carers, GPs, Health Visitors, Teachers and support staff, Nursery Workers, Child minders and voluntary agency workers.
