This team sees children who are not yet at school and who have speech, language and communication difficulties. Services are designed to meet the individual needs of the child. Parents and those who spend time with the child are supported with advice and programmes so that they can help develop the child's communication skills to his/her optimum level.
This service is for children under five who have significant speech and language difficulties. The emphasis is on specialist consultative, collaborative working and access to our trained speech and language assistants who support therapy programmes in the best locations for the child.
The community team sees school aged children up to 18 years of age with difficulties that affect speech, language and communication. The emphasis, following assessment is on providing advice and support for parents, carers and/or education staff so that they know how to develop the child's communication skills to their optimum level.
This service is for children who have a complex ‘Specific Language Impairment’ or Hearing difficulty and are over 5 years of age and at 'School Action Plus' or above on the special education needs code of practice. These children have access to specialist consultative and collaborative service providing advice, training and support.
Those children who have significant social and communication difficulties may access this service. These children are supported by a highly specialist team of speech and language therapists working closely with families and those in the pre-school and school environments.
